Clive Palmer and QNI Resources keeping local sprinter’s career on track
Clive Palmer and QNI Resources are helping to keep Townsville sprinting sensation Jake Doran’s career on track, providing support for a major athletics meet in Brisbane next month.
QNI Resources has chipped in over $15,000 to help Jake meet the ongoing costs of transport, accommodation, equipment and physio to compete at top international meets around Australia and the globe.
The company will be assisting the 100m Australian under 20 record holder contest the Queensland Athletics Joanna Stone Shield meet in Brisbane on 1st December, where he will be making his return to the 400 metre event.
“I am so grateful for the support from Clive Palmer and QNI Resources for helping me chase my dreams,’’ Jake said.
“This will be my first competitive 400m race in over two years so I’m both excited and nervous to give it a crack. Hopefully I will run a PB that will be close to the times run by the best 400m runners in Australia.
“My fitness is at its best at the very start of the season, so hopefully it’ll be a successful season opener,’’ he said.
QNI Resources Chairman Clive Palmer said the company was committed to giving back to the North Queensland community.
“We are very happy to support great Townsville organisations and people in achieving their goals, doing wonderful things for the community and inspiring others,’’ Mr Palmer said.
“We want to make Townsville great again. Let’s unite and be better,’’ Mr Palmer said.
