QNI makes application for accreditation to be a rail operator for Yabulu Nickel and Cobalt operations

The Managing Director of QNI Resources and QNI Metals, Mr Nui Harris, has announced the company has made application for accreditation to be a rail operator for its operations at the Yabulu Nickel Refinery in Townsville, North Queensland.

“QNI Resources Pty Ltd made application to the National Rail Safety Regulator on Monday, 29 April 2019, to be an above rail operator for rail operations associated with the reopening of QNI’s Yabulu Nickel and Cobalt Refinery,” Mr Harris said.

For QNI operations to remain sustainable and operate within the first quartile of the cost curve, it’s pertinent that QNI takes control of its transport logistics from a cost and security perspective.

With works already commenced on recommissioning parts of the refinery, and nickel and cobalt production planned for 2020, the refinery is looking to leverage off efficient transport infrastructure, to provide an environment of low costs and high productivity.

“QNI managers have a strong track record of developing low cost, high productivity, world class infrastructure, and we look forward to leveraging these skills to operate our own mineral ore logistics operations,” Mr Harris said.
